Application process for Tampere University master's programmes

Ready to apply? Great! Here you can find all the necessary information when applying to a master’s programme in Tampere University.

Carefully read through the general eligibility criteria and the programme-specific eligibility criteria, and ensure that you meet the criteria of the programme you wish to apply to.

English language requirements

As an applicant you must demonstrate your proficiency in the English language, usually with an internationally recognised academic language test score or with previous studies as accepted by Tampere University. Make sure to register for a language test well in advance. There might not be many test dates available, or they may be fully booked. For further information, please read our language requirements.

Application documents

Check what application documents you are required to submit. All application attachments must be uploaded to your application online. You do not need to send certified copies at the time of applying, however if offered a study place, it will be conditional upon submitting officially certified copies of your educational documents by the set deadline of 29 May 2026 at 15.00 (UTC+3).

We recommend that you start preparing your documents well before the application period begins to ensure you have everything ready.

Submitting the online application

The online application form will be available only during the application period at Studyinfo.fi. The application period begins on 15 December 2025 at 8.00 (UTC+2) and ends on 5 January 2026 at 15.00 (UTC+2). It is not possible to apply before or after this timeline.

When filling in the application, please answer all the questions and attach scanned copies of the original educational documents, preferably as colour copies, to the application form.

You can edit your application only during the application period. Attachments can be uploaded until 12 Jan 2026 at 15.00 (UTC+2).

We accept only one online application form per application period with a maximum of 2 different master’s programmes. When applying, you must prioritise your programme choices (1st to 2nd). If accepted, you will be offered a study place in only one programme (the highest prioritised programme that you qualify for). Please note that the order of preference is binding, and it cannot be changed after the application period ends.

After you have submitted your application, you will receive an automatic message from Studyinfo.fi confirming that your online application form has been received. This message will also list any missing documents, that you are required to submit to complete the application. The automatic message includes your application number (e.g. 1.2.246.562.11.00000000000000000000). Use only an email address that you have access to until the possible start of studies in autumn.  If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your junk mail folder. If it is not there, contact Tampere University Admissions Services.

As the applicant it is your responsibility to make sure that all the documents meet the given requirements and they are submitted on time, regardless of who is submitting them (educational institution, agent, etc.). The Admissions Services will process your application only if all the required documents have been uploaded. Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements or do not submit all the required documents by the deadline will not proceed to academic evaluation.

Academic evaluation

There is no entrance examination when applying to the master’s programmes taught in English at Tampere University. The student selection is made by the faculty's admissions committees based on your academic qualifications and merits shown in your application documents. Admission to studies leading directly to a master's degree will be based on the applicant’s bachelor's degree conferred by a university or a university of applied sciences. Depending on programme-specific admission requirements, the programme may also consider additional factors and/or skills previously acquired by applicants when evaluating applications.

The student selection process is based on your:

  • success in previous studies
  • English language proficiency
  • motivation to study in the programme.

For additional information on scoring and evaluation, please see each programme's admission criteria in Studyinfo.fi.

Announcement of results

The admissions committees of the various programmes have different schedules and therefore we cannot inform you of your application status during the selection process. All admission results are announced by the end of March 2026 via email to the email address provided on the application.
