Language requirements for Tampere University master's programmes

When applying to a master’s programme at Tampere University, you must submit evidence of good command of the English language for academic purposes. You have two options for demonstrating your English language proficiency: language tests or previous studies. You must submit documentation as proof of language skills in both cases. Please see detailed instructions and additional information below.

Language tests

The language test must be completed by the application deadline of 5 January 2026. The results should be delivered to Tampere University as soon as the results are available. If you have taken the test previously, make sure that the test score is valid at least until 5 January 2026. Please upload your language test result to the online application. Tampere University will verify all language test results online.

Be advised, you will need to book a language test well in advance. There might not be many test dates available, or they may get fully booked early.

Exemptions based on previous studies

An exemption from submitting a language test score is only possible based on studies specified and listed by Tampere University as demonstrating a good command of the English language for academic purposes. If you are applying without a valid language test result, carefully review the exemption criteria below. Only studies that meet the stated criteria will be accepted.

The language of instruction for your degree must be stated on your degree certificate, the official transcript of records, diploma supplement or another official document issued by the awarding institution. Detailed information about the required studies and instructions for submitting documents are provided below.
