Checklist for exchange students

The following checklist is for exchange students that will start their exchange studies in the autumn semester 2024. After you have completed your preliminary study plan and submitted your application for exchange studies, please note the following next steps that are required from you. The checklist has three parts:

  1. Before you get admitted
  2. After you have been admitted
  3. After you receive a follow-up from the International Mobility Services in summer
  4. Before and after your arrival

1. Before you get admitted by the International Mobility Services

    Apply for exchange studies, 1 - 30 April

    Get nominated by your home university first and then apply for exchange studies!

  2. 2

    Apply for student housing, 6 May - 6 June

    Apply for student housing before your admission decision (excl. ISEP students)

2. After you have been admitted, next steps

    Apply for the residence permit for studies, May - June

    The residence permit for studies is required only from non-EU/EEA students

  2. 2

    Get yourself a proper health insurance, May - June

    A comprehensive health insurance is recommended for all exchange students

  3. 3

    Confirm and sign the student housing agreement, June

    We recommend you to take the first offer you will get (housing is very limited)

  4. 4

    Submit your question for the pre-arrival info (if you wish)

    You can submit your question by 16 June

  5. 5

    Make preliminary plans for your arrival

    Aim your arrival according to our arrival window, 1 - 18 August

3. After you have been contacted in June by the International Mobility Services with the follow-up instructions

    Register with the university online, June - July

    Wait until you will be invited to register with the university online

  2. 2

    Activate your TUNI account, June - July

    Wait until you will be invited by email to complete this step

    Set up the MFA for your TUNI account, June - July

    Setting up the MFA for your TUNI account is a requirement

  4. 4

    Attend the pre-arrival information session, 19 June

    Highly recommended for all, online at 12:00 - 14:00 Finnish time (will be recorded)

  5. 5

    Join our mobile app to meet other students, June - July

    Wait until you will be receive an invitation link to our mobile app

  6. 6

    Pay your Student Union membership fee, July

    Paying TREY's membership fee is highly recommended

  7. 7

    Respond to your personal student tutor, July

    Replying to your personal student tutor is a requirement

  8. 8

    Register in Sisu for teaching period I courses, 1 - 19 August

    Registering for courses in Sisu by the deadline is a requirement for all

  9. 9

    Complete the Moodle course on information security, August

    The Moodle course on information security must be completed on time

  10. 10

    Order your student card online, August

    Check from Sisu first, if your TREY payment has been approved

  11. 11

    Start the online part of the DVV registration, August

    The DVV registration must be started online, between 1 - 25 August

4. Your journey to Tampere and after your arrival

    Arrive in Tampere during the arrival window, 1 - 18 August

    Arrive in Tampere on time, late arrival is not recommended

  2. 2

    Get your starting kit from ESN FINT or INTO, 1 - 18 August

    Get your starting kits from ESN FINT or INTO on time as these will run out!

  3. 3

    Attend our Welcome Week, 19 - 23 August

    Attending our Welcome Week is a requirement for all students

  4. 4

    Check the Welcome Week recordings in Moodle, 19 - 23 August

    Some info sessions might be published online, most will be not

    Get your exchange documents signed, 22 August

    During the Welcome Week, the exact date, place and time TBA

  6. 6

    Collect your student card (if you ordered one), August

    Collect your plastic student card, takes about 2 weeks to be ready after your order

  7. 7

    Respond to our Welcome Week's feedback survey, August

    You will receive a link to our feedback survey with a chance to win a prize!

  8. 8

    First courses of the teaching period I, 26 August

    First courses of the teaching period I might start on Monday, 26 August

  9. 9

    Complete the DVV registration on campus, late August

    The DVV registration will be organised on campus, 26.8. - 6.9.2024

  10. 10

    Register for teaching period II courses, 16 September

    The registration window for teaching period II courses is 16 Oct - 7 Oct
