<p>Tampere University organises a mandatory Welcome Week for all new exchange students at the beginning of each semester. The Welcome Week will include programme both on our campuses and online. The online programme will be recorded and published in Moodle (<a href="https://moodle.tuni.fi/course/view.php?id=1398" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Welcome Week for exchange students</a>).</p>

<p>Your <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/exchange-studies/information-exchange-students-university/registration-university-exchange-students" rel="noopener" target="_blank">registration with the University</a> has to be done online already before the Welcome Week. We also welcome you to our sustainable community, as Tampere University is committed to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. <p>Beside the steps in our checklist for exchange students starting their studies in the autumn semester 2024, always follow our email instructions and note the fun events that will be organised for exchange students by ESN FINT and INTO Tampere during the Welcome Week and after! Some events will be advertised on our mobile app as well.</p>


Checklist for exchange students, autumn semester 2024

<p>During the Welcome Week, you will receive information on studying at Tampere University, our student guidance and counselling services, the Student Union, living in Tampere as a student and the <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/exchange-studies/information-exchange-students-university/registration-authorities-new-exchange-students" rel="noopener" target="_blank">required registrations to be completed</a> after arrival. As a part of the Welcome Week programme, some study fields may arrange their own information sessions. Please notice that <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/exchange-studies/information-exchange-students-university/registration-courses-and-study-practices-exchange-students" rel="noopener" target="_blank">final registration for courses</a> happens before the Welcome Week (during August and in December) and the deadlines for registrations can vary in different courses.</p>

<p>We know that starting university can be a daunting experience and a big adjustment, especially when it involves moving to another country. But be assured that there are plenty of other students in the same position as you are and we will do our best to organise some get-togethers and fun activities as well.</p>

<p>Almost all (online) Welcome Week presentations will be uploaded to the Welcome Week's Moodle course page (<a href="https://moodle.tuni.fi/course/view.php?id=1398" rel="noopener" target="_blank">TUNI Moodle - Welcome Week for exchange students</a>), which you will be able to access with an activated TUNI account.</p>

General information about the Welcome Week

<p>Almost 2-hour long pre-arrival online information session will be organised for exchange students on <strong>19 June</strong> at 12:00 - 14:00 Finnish time. The slides and the recorded video from the information session will be sent to all exchange students during the same week.</p>

Welcome Week programme, autumn semester 2024 - info sessions and recordings

<p>The language proficiency evaluation tests for language studies <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/studentsguide/curriculum/course-units/?q=KIE.EN&amp;lang=en&amp;audience=international-students&amp;size=50" rel="noopener" target="_blank">within the English Department</a> and from a study module of <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/curriculum/modules/otm-1d6637fa-df93-4826-9d2c-3bb7ec7b2cbd" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Finnish Language and Culture</a> will be organised during the Welcome Week. The tests are organised on campus and are compulsory for all students planning to select <strong>any</strong> courses from the two study options below. The required language level for courses in language studies are <strong>C1 in English</strong> and <strong>B2 in Finnish</strong>). We are unable to make any exceptions and your language level will be determined with the proficiency evaluation test (even if you are a native speaker).</p>

<p>The English courses organised by the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences (ITC) and the English Language Specialisation of the Degree Programme in Languages (courses starting with <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/studentsguide/curriculum/course-units/?q=KIE.EN&amp;lang=en&amp;audience=international-students&amp;size=50" rel="noopener" target="_blank"><strong>KIE.EN</strong>xxxxx</a>) are meant particularly for English specialists (nominated for English studies), but are open also for other exchange students who pass the test (max 10 ECTS credits).</p>

<p>The mobile app will not be used for official communication with exchange students but is one way to get to know other international students (both international degree and exchange students) and get some answers to your practical questions. Also, we might post some events that might be interesting for exchange students in the mobile app.</p>
