Tampere University Student's Handbook

Student housing for exchange students

Tampere University does not have any on-campus accomodation, does not own any student housing nor have housing services to offer. Student housing for exchange students in Tampere is administrated mainly by the Tampere Student Housing Foundation (TOAS), which provides a number of furnished rooms for incoming exchange students at a student-friendly price including free internet and other fairly priced services.

Another option is Pirkan Opiskelija-asunnot (POAS), which has a small number of furnished apartments for exchange students. This option might be good for exchange students studying on Kauppi campus, as POAS student house in Ruotula is located close to the campus. The rent includes always free internet connection, water, electricity, laundry and sauna shifts.

Tampere University cannot guarantee student housing for all exchange students since the quota is limited and we do not recommend private rental housing market at all. In some cases, if all furnished student housing locations are full, you will get a message on how to apply for an unfurnished room or apartment only. Unfortunately the university cannot assist you with furniture either.

It is recommended to apply to TOAS as soon as the application window will open in May (autumn semester) or in October (spring semester) as rooms fill up very quickly. Follow TOAS What's New section for the latest updates. The student housing is given on a first-come, first-served basis.
