What are officially certified (attested) and legalised copies?

We do not accept regular photocopies of educational documents sent by post. All educational documents sent by post must be either officially certified by the awarding institution or legalised copies.

Applicants whose degrees have been awarded in certain countries need to pay special attention and submit their documents according to the country-specific requirements. The country-specific requirements may concern the copy of the Bachelor's degree certificate, Transcript of records or the official translation of these documents.

In addition, officially certified copies issued by a Finnish Notary Public are accepted (even if the degree has been completed in a country with country-specific requirements). Please note that officially certified copies issued by notaries public in other countries are not accepted without legalisation.

We have updated the official instructions concerning delivery of educational documents (enclosures 1-3) due to restrictions related to COVID-19. If the operation of your degree awarding institution has been restricted due to COVID-19 and it is not possible for you to deliver the enclosures as otherwise instructed, please see section Update on instructions due to restrictions related to COVID-19 (updated on 7.12.2021)

Please see detailed instructions below.

Delivering documents by post

You must send the educational documents (enclosures 1-3) by post to Tampere University Admissions Office by 26 January 2022. Please note that you must upload these documents also to the online application form at

Please post your documents well before the deadline. An applicant is always responsible for the arrival of documents at Admission Office. This is also the case if you do not deliver the documents yourself. We recommend using a courier service instead of regular post especially if sending documents outside the EU, and to ensure that the delivery clears customs easily, please only enclose the paper documents in the delivery envelope. If possible, please indicate the value of the delivery as 0,01.

Tampere University is not responsible for services provided by courier services or other 3rd parties or any delays or damage caused by them.

We will not send you a notification message about the arrival your attachments, only after we have processed your documents and application.
