HybriMat – Self-streering hybrid materials

Co-funded by the European Union

HybriMat project focuses on the development of smart materials and surfaces by combining different material production methods. The novelty of the project is the combination of different technologies and materials into a hybrid solution which improves the performance of the components in demanding environments. The development of new composite materials fulfilling companies’ needs are in the focus point in order to improve products’ life cycle, maintenance freedom and functionality. The goals are achieved by combining material and coating technologies that address challenges such as preventing icing and soiling, and by developing environmentally friendly material combinations. Project consists of four research organizations (Aalto University, University of Eastern Finland, Karelia, and Tampere University) and five companies (Abloy, Millidyne, Patrol Trading, Vaisala, and Valmet Automation).

In the project, TAU’s expertise concentrates on coating development for multimaterial and hybrid solutions as well as icing research. Experimental research will be performed by using research facilities such as Thermal spray and cold spray laboratory as well as Ice laboratory.
