Career at TAMK

Be yourself with us – career stories from TAMK employees

I think we have a really nice community spirit here. Everybody helps each other. TAMK has this small town vibe.

Working culture

We foster an entrepreneurial environment and a culture of experimentation. Everyone is encouraged to work according to their own strengths and personality.

Here, you can make a difference by taking initiative. We encourage everyone to share their ideas and challenge existing practices without fear of being embarrassed. We value an open culture of discussion.

We regularly monitor employee wellbeing and promote it through various measures and services. Our employees tend to stay with us for a long time on average.

We are constantly strenghtening the internationality of our university. We have more than 1,000 international students across different degree programmes. Finnish is the most used language in our campuses, but working in English is also part of our everyday practice. Our staff members have opportunities to work within international networks and to participate in staff exchanges abroad.

Employee benefits

We value a healthy work-life balance and offer a wide variety of employee benefits, including:

  • flexible working hours and the possibility for partial remote work in most roles
  • an on‑site staff restaurant offering affordable lunch options
  • extensive occupational health care services
  • a sports, culture and wellbeing benefit
  • SportUni’s sports services directly on campus
  • training and coaching opportunities based on work needs

As a higher education institution, we also place strong emphasis on professional development. Staff can participate in open university studies offered by the Tampere Universities community free of charge when space is available. The diverse online courses provided by Eduhouse are also readily accessible at all times. We support skills development and learning at work through various project and RDI assignments.

Because our organisation is large, employees also have the opportunity to develop themselves by moving between roles or units when suitable opportunities arise. For those interested in doctoral studies, we offer a doctoral path programme that enables completing a doctoral degree at Tampere University or another relevant university alongside work.

We are part of the Tampere Universities community

TAMK and Tampere University together form the Tampere Universities community. We continuously develop new ways of working and making an impact together. Most of our employees also collaborate with colleagues at the university to some extent.

Relocating to Tampere and Finland

It’s great to work in Finland’s most attractive city! Just like at TAMK, Tampere more broadly is characterised by a spirit of doing, growing, and entrepreneurship. Tampere is big enough to offer excellent services, yet it has managed to remain pleasantly relaxed and close to nature.
