Pekka Kähkipuro appointed as Tampere University’s Chief Information Officer

PhD Pekka Kähkipuro has been appointed as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Tampere University. He will take up his new appointment on 1 August 2021.

Kähkipuro is currently CIO at Brunel University London, where he has been heading the Information Services Directorate since 2016. Prior to joining Brunel, Kähkipuro was Director of IT at Aalto University in Finland and held various senior roles in the private sector, including Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks. He has been Board member of the European University Information Systems (EUNIS) organisation on two occasions and the President of EUNIS in 2015. He has also been board member and Chairman of the Board in several private sector companies.

Pekka Kähkipuro obtained his PhD in computer science from the University of Helsinki in 2000.

“The higher education sector is facing major changes in both Finland and abroad, and Tampere Universities are perfectly poised to play an important role in this transformation. I am delighted to be joining the University at such an exciting time. I believe my current role at Brunel and my previous experience across the public and private sectors provide a strong foundation for my new role at Tampere University,” Kähkipuro says.

Fifteen candidates applied for the position of CIO in the open call for applications and four were invited to apply through an executive search. The pool of candidates included three assumed females and sixteen assumed males.
