This spring we are using a new International UAS Exam in student selections for TAMK Bachelor’s degrees in English.

The exam is based on the national entrance exam for universities of applied sciences (AMK-valintakoe) and the participating degree programmes from TAMK are:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • International Business
  • Nursing
  • Software Engineering
  • Textile and Material Engineering

International UAS Exam has been designed by a consortium of universities of applied sciences and various experts from member institutions. It helps simplify the application process for both institutions and applicants alike. Exceptional times during the pandemic forced us all to quickly replace previous on-site exams with a variety of alternative methods. A more applicant-friendly admissions process has been the target of national development for a long time.

An online exam enables applicants to take part globally from any location without the need to travel to Finland or to a FINNIPS network entrance exam country or city. The platform used for the national exam provided a fully functional option for international admissions as well.

This past Wednesday 9 February 2022 a total of 12 054 applicants took part in the first written phase of the exam. Attendance percentage of 72,4 % was somewhat higher than in the national entrance exam for universities of applied sciences.

Applicants who pass the written exam will proceed to field-specific online group interviews in phase two. The interviews will be carried out in TAMK 2-11 March 2022 using Zoom. Applicants will be invited by their highest priority destination to interviews based on their study field and they only need to take part in one interview. Each 60 minute group interview includes a group discussion and a section of producing English language in writing. TAMK has conducted online interviews as part of student admissions before and we expect the second phase to go smoothly.

Applicants to TAMK Bachelor’s degree in Nursing will also take part in a separate interview 17-18 March 2022 where their Finnish language skills are evaluated.

In the first joint application round TAMK has 309 study places on offer in our Bachelor’s degrees. Master’s degrees have a combined intake of 115 students.

Student selection results for Bachelor’s degrees will be published by Friday 3 June 2022. In the joint application round applicants can be accepted into all degree programmes they qualify for. They may, however, only accept one study place starting in the 2022 Autumn term.
