Higher Education Group hosts Hong Kong students for two-week academic programme on policy analysis

The two-week programme, organized by the Higher Education Group (HEG) of Tampere University’s Faculty of Management and Business, aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of higher education systems and innovation policies in a global context. Through lectures, discussions, and interactive sessions, the students explored key themes related to governance, policy analysis, and institutional strategies, while gaining insights into Finland’s higher education landscape.

The academic component of the visit centered on the course Analysis of Higher Education and Innovation Policies, delivered by Professor Jussi Kivistö, Professor Mari-Pauliina Vainikainen, Doctor Nina Arnhold, and University Instructor Kateryna Suprun. The course was delivered in an engaging and multifaceted way, combining global perspectives with Finnish examples to provide a comprehensive understanding of higher education policy analysis.

Beyond the classroom, the programme featured a rich array of extracurricular activities designed to introduce students to Finnish culture and traditions. Highlights included a guided tour of Tampere, visits to local museums, a traditional Finnish sauna experience, and a festive joulutorttu baking event. These activities offered students an opportunity to connect with Finnish customs while enabling intercultural exchange. Supporting the programme's academic and extracurricular aspects were Doctoral Researchers Karol Leja, Uswa Zainab, and José Riega Cayetano, who provided guidance and ensured a smooth learning experience for the participants.

The EdUHK students were accompanied by staff members from the university, whose presence greatly enriched the experience. Their involvement facilitated deeper discussions on future collaboration opportunities between the two institutions, strengthening academic ties and paving the way for joint initiatives.
The visit strengthens Tampere University’s efforts to promote international collaboration and knowledge sharing in higher education. By combining academic training with cultural immersion, the programme provided Hong Kong students with a comprehensive understanding of Finland’s education system and innovation policies, while strengthening ties between the two institutions.
