Tampere University opened the Chip Fusion Hub, a new visitor centre dedicated to showcasing local expertise in semiconductor chip technology, at the beginning of May. The centre highlights the semiconductor chip development taking place in the Tampere region, along with the companies that have emerged from this thriving ecosystem.

“The new Chip Fusion Hub brings together the region’s chip developers, reinforcing the semiconductor ecosystem both locally and across Finland. Through our development efforts, we aim not only to boost industrial competitiveness but also to strengthen the resilience and security of supply across Europe and the Tampere region in a sector that is becoming an increasingly vital part of our everyday life and society. The Chip Fusion Hub offers everyone interested in semiconductor technology a chance to explore the work being done in this field in Finland,” says Pasi Pylväs, Director of the Finnish Chips Competence Center FICCC.

Showcasing local chip expertise to the world

The new centre offers visitors the opportunity to engage with local chip specialists and provides a window into the vibrant chip development landscape for regional, national and international stakeholders. The goal is for the Chip Fusion Hub to comprehensively showcase the significant progress made in the region in semiconductor chip development.

“Through active collaborations, Tampere University has become one of Europe’s leading hubs for semiconductor development. The Chip Fusion Hub shines a spotlight on the various stakeholders involved. It is a place where potential collaborators and investors interested in our region can meet our specialists, right at the heart of the Hervanta campus and its vibrant atmosphere,” says Petri Räsänen, Lead of the Chips from Tampere programme from Business Tampere.

Tampere University assumes a prominent role in chip development in Europe

Tampere University has secured significant funding as part of the European Commission’s EU Chips Act. The new visitor centre invites everyone to discover the University’s extensive research and development in semiconductor technology: it features displays on the System-in-Package Fabrication (SiPFAB) pilot line, the System-on-Chip (SoC) Hub, the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), and the Laboratory for Future Electronics (LFE).

“This is an excellent opportunity to present the world-class research conducted in this domain at Tampere University. The Chip Fusion Hub will also promote scientific openness and highlight the importance of semiconductor research for Europe and the world,” says Jarmo Takala, Vice President of Tampere University.

The Chip Fusion Hub is located on the first floor of the Kampusareena building (address: Korkeakoulunkatu 7, Tampere).
