Education science has maintained its strong position in the Times Higher Education (THE) subject rankings, while social sciences achieved a slight improvement. Education science retained last year’s ranking in the category of 151–175 best institutions, and social sciences rose into the top 200. In its latest rankings, Times Higher Education (THE) compared university performance across academic disciplines.

Following the overall institutional rankings, the subject-level rankings were once again released, with results published by THE in January.

THE lists Tampere University in nine subject areas. Education science performed the strongest in its subject comparison, coming into the bracket of the best 151–175. Social sciences improved their position by one ranking group and is now placed among the best 176–200.

Arts and humanities and psychology were ranked in the 201–250 category, with psychology moving up one group.

In the most recent university ranking, Tampere University was among the 350 best institutions in the world.

One of the university’s key strengths in the general ranking last autumn was industry engagement, which in THE’s methodology refers to external research income from industry sources and patents generated through research.

THE’s ranking indicators assess research, teaching, research environment, industry income and international outlook.
