Listening to books, both for study and leisure, is becoming increasingly popular. Tampere University Library has acquired Finnish audiobooks from the Ellibs service, and a wide collection of audiobooks is available on the O’Reilly service. Several other e-book services have improved the accessibility of their books by adding the option to listen to them.

The library has purchased MP3-format audiobooks from the Ellibs service, which mainly includes Finnish e-books and audiobooks on various subjects. The international O’Reilly service offers, in addition to e-books, a wide collection of audiobooks in the fields of computer science, information technology, software development, digital media, and business.

There are still a limited number of coursebook-type audiobooks available for library use. However, an increasing number of e-book services have developed a listening option for their books. The listening option is available in the Finnish service Oppiportti and in some of the books in the Alma Insights Business Library and Verkkokirjahylly services, as well as the new KauppakamariTiedon Ammattikirjasto. Among foreign services, the listening option is available in Higher Education from Cambridge University Press, Taylor & Francis eBooks, VLeBooks, and VitalSource Explore.

We have compiled information about audiobooks and listening options in our E-material guide on the Audiobooks page. You will find, among other things, information on how to search for audiobooks on the Andor search service or where to find more detailed information on the listening function of the services.

Also, check out our Audiobooks themed collection, which includes a selection of audiobooks acquired by the Library.
