EBSCO eBooks service has transferred to a new digital rights management solution. As a result, the reader application used for downloading EBSCO eBooks has changed from Adobe Digital Editions to Thorium Reader, which offers improved accessibility. This change applies only to downloading entire eBooks to your computer for a limited loan period, allowing you to read them also offline. The browser reading option and the EBSCO mobile app will remain unchanged, as well as the downloading of individual chapters or DRM free books to your device.

If you want to download an entire book from EBSCO eBooks, first install Thorium Reader application on your computer. The free application is available from the Thorium Reader website. Staff of Tampere higher education community can download Thorium Reader to their Windows workstations from the IT Services–maintained Company Portal. For the time being, Thorium Reader is available only for desktop computers, not for mobile devices.

In addition to the new reader application, downloading a book requires signing in to the EBSCO eBooks service. To activate the license of the downloaded book, you will also need a passphrase generated by the EBSCO service. Your device will remember this passphrase, so you will not need to enter it again.

More detailed information about Thorium Reader and a tutorial video can be found on the EBSCO eBooks – LCP & Thorium – Frequently Asked Questions page.
