Innovation services and the commercialisation in our higher education community
Experts in innovation services at Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences assist in the commercialisation of research-based innovations and support the establishment of spin-off companies.
All management, transfer, sale, and licensing of technologies and intellectual property rights (IPR) within the higher education community, as well as the invention disclosure process, are handled through the innovation services. Intellectual property protection is managed in collaboration with researchers, and technology transfers are carried out annually with a variety of companies, ranging from startups to large international corporations. In the invention disclosure process, experienced experts on the team evaluate the invention’s technical and commercial potential, patentability, and the team’s ability to execute.
The key funding instrument is Business Finland’s Research to Business funding, which is used to prepare research-driven commercialisation projects.
Innovation Services is responsible for the R2B application process, and a prerequisite for teams to apply is participation in the Masterclass: Commercialization of Research Findings coaching led by Innovation Services, which is held twice a year. Experts advise teams on how to protect their innovations and develop them into businesses.
Innovation Services actively introduces teams and projects seeking funding to investors. We also regularly seek out business developers to support commercialisation projects. These developers join the teams to identify and build commercialisation pathways.
Business Finland Research to Business Funding
The Tampere higher education community is also part of the SPARK Finland network, which supports researchers and students in developing their research ideas and inventions into new innovations and business ventures. SPARK provides intensive and systematic support for increasing the maturity of ideas towards practical and value creating solutions in the health tech and life science field.
