Biomendex

Founded in 2018, Biomendex is a health technology company originating from the Tampere University that develops and manufactures synthetic bone substitute materials to support bone and tissue regeneration. The company’s solutions are based on expertise in biomaterials and tissue technology developed at the Tampere University.

The Adaptos® technology developed by Biomendex mimics the structure of natural cancellous bone and supports bone tissue regeneration. The material can be easily moulded to suit various surgical needs, which is why it can be utilised, for example, in orthopaedics, spinal surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Impact

Biomendex develops solutions that support bone and tissue regeneration using synthetic biomaterials. These materials can reduce the need for bone graft material harvested from the patient or a donor, whilst also facilitating surgical procedures.

The company’s solutions support the treatment of both human and animal patients and strengthen Finnish expertise in biomaterials and health technology on the international market.

Background

Biomendex has its roots in research carried out at Tampere University on biomaterials, tissue engineering, bioactive composite materials and bone regeneration. The commercialisation of the research results was supported by Business Finland’s ‘From Research to Business’ (TutLi) funding, now known as Research to Business.
