StemSight

Founded in 2021, StemSight is a biotechnology company originating from Tampere University that develops regenerative cell therapies for the treatment of corneal blindness. The company’s solutions are based on more than a decade of research into stem cells, biomaterials and tissue engineering carried out at Tampere University.

StemSight utilises induced pluripotent stem cells and biomaterials to develop cell therapy products for the treatment of corneal damage without the need for donor tissue. The first products are aimed at treating limbal stem cell deficiency, and potential future applications of the technology are also being investigated for the treatment of other corneal diseases.

Impact

StemSight is developing new treatment options for corneal blindness and other serious eye conditions. The company’s solutions have the potential to reduce reliance on scarce donor tissue and improve access to treatment.

The company promotes the development of regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies, whilst strengthening Finnish expertise in biotechnology and health technology on the international stage.

Background

StemSight has its roots in research carried out at Tampere University into stem cells, tissue engineering, biomaterials and regenerative medicine for the eye. The commercialisation of the research findings was supported by Business Finland’s Research to Business funding.
