Syöpäsäätiöltä yli 1,2 miljoonaa euroa Tampereen yliopiston tutkijoille
Syöpäsäätiö on jakanut tänä vuonna kahdeksan miljoonaa euroa rahoitusta, mikä on enemmän kuin koskaan Syöpäsäätiön apurahojen historiassa. Hakemuksia tuli yhteensä 286 ja rahoitusta myönnettiin 95 tutkijalle tai tutkimusryhmälle.
Eniten rahoitusta kohdentui jälleen tutkimukseen, joka ei liity mihinkään erityiseen syöpätyyppiin, ja luo pohjaa tulevaisuuden läpimurroille ja tehokkaille hoitomuodoille eli hyödyttää lopulta kaikkia syöpään sairastuneita.

Prof. Tero Järvinen ja tutkimusryhmä: 50 000 €, Systemically administered multi-functional recombinant protein consisting of CendR peptide and decorin for target-specific treatment of squamous cell carcinoma and breast cancer. 1-vuotiseen tutkimustyöhön.
LL Ulla Karhunen-Enckell: 4 000 €, Factors Influencing Breast cancer Resection volumes And Their Impact on treatment Outcome (FIBRATIO): a prospective multicenter study. Väitöskirja-apuraha.
Dos. Olli Lainiala ja tutkimusryhmä: 85 000 €, Imaging in primary diagnostics of cancer – Do we understand the limitations of imaging modalities available? 2-vuotiseen tutkimustyöhön.
Prof. Terho Lehtimäki ja tutkimusryhmä: 225 000 €, Randomised prostate cancer screening trial (ProScreen): Assessing the role of polygenic risk scores in enhancing screening effectiveness and lowering prostate cancer mortality. 3-vuotiseen tutkimustyöhön.
Prof., LT Olli Lohi ja tutkimusryhmä: 225 000 €, Targeted therapies for T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. 3-vuotiseen tutkimustyöhön.
FM Lauri Ryyppö: 4 000 €, Development of DNA-Based Bioassays for Cancer Detection. Väitöskirja-apuraha.
M.Sc. Kari Sana: 4 000 €, A Mechanistic Approach for Repurposing GPR17-Targeted Drugs in Glioma Cells. Väitöskirja-apuraha.
LKT, professori Olli Silvennoinen ja tutkimusryhmä: 225 000 €, Untapped potential of JAK inhibition in solid cancers: Evaluation of JAK inhibitors in colorectal cancer based on molecular profiling and patient stratification. 3-vuotiseen tutkimustyöhön.
PhD in Cancer Genetics Alfonso Urbanucci ja tutkimusryhmä: 225 000 €, Deep immunoprofiling of the prostate tumor microenvironment in shaping prostate cancer progression and metastatic spreading. 3-vuotiseen tutkimustyöhön.
FM Tuomo Virtanen: 4 000 €, Genetic and epigenetic mechanisms driving castration resistant prostate cancer. Väitöskirja-apuraha.
Prof. Pia Österlund ja tutkimusryhmä: 75 000 €, How to use curative-intent treatments optimally. 1-vuotiseen tutkimustyöhön.
