Description
The application period for the Bachelor's route studies for the academic year 2026–2027 begins on 29 July 2026 and ends 11 August 2026.
The studies form a package of the degree-level studies, consisting of mathematics, physics and information and communications technology. The aim is to facilitate the student’s access to a full degree programme at a later time. The Open University routes are meant for applicants already residing in Finland.
Only applications received during the application period will be reviewed.
There are no preliminary knowledge requirements for the route.
Courses must be completed during a single academic year.
Once you have completed the route studies, you can apply for the Bachelor´s Degree Programme in Science and Engineering, BSc (Tech) or Computing and Electrical Engineering, BSc (Tech). Please note that the credits should be visible in the student register on 14 June 2027 in order to be taken into account. Once admitted as a degree student, the credits you have completed in your route studies will be transferred as a part of your degree.

Implementation of studies
Courses can be done mostly remotely, but they still require on-campus exams. In the physics course, laboratory works and exam is done on campus. You can find more information about the teaching methods in the details of each course.
The implementations of the courses have their own internal schedules, for example, regarding teaching and assignment submissions.
NOTE! Programming 1: Introduction to programming course is offered free of charge.

MATH.APP.111 Introductory Calculus, 5 cr
MATH.MA.140 Vectors and Matrices, 5 cr
FYS.101 University Physics 1, 5 cr
COMP.CS.100 Programming 1: Introduction to programming, 5 cr
To be eligible for admission as a degree student in the 2027 spring admission round, you must complete the Open University courses listed above by 14 June 2027 and achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3,50/5,00. The term GPA refers to your unrounded and weighted GPA for the courses included in the Open University route.

The Open University routes are meant for applicants already residing in Finland.
To apply as an actual degree student based on your Open University Route studies, you must submit an electronic application in the spring 2027 on Studyinfo.fi: www.studyinfo.fi.
You will be eligible to apply for admission through this route if you are studying in the Open University BSc route at Tampere University during the academic year 2026–2027, complete a set of required courses by 14 June 2027, and your academic performance meets the requirements.
When admitted to the Bachelor’s Programmes in Science and Engineering or Computing and Electrical Engineering you are granted the right to study towards a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree. After completing the degree of Bachelor of Science in Technology, you will have multiple options to choose from among the Master’s programmes offered in English at Tampere University.
You may accept only one study place per academic term leading to a higher education degree in Finland in education that begins in the same academic term.
If you accept this offer of a study place, you will forfeit all prior study places of the same or lower degree level in Finland. For more information on this provision.
The Degree Regulations of Tampere University will apply to the granting of study rights to applicants applying through the Open University route. For more information, please see limitations on granting a new right to study. Applicants currently pursuing a BSc (Tech) and/or MSc (Tech) degree at Tampere University are not eligible to be granted a new right to study through this route.
