Study structure
This programme provides you with a strong foundation in biomedical sciences and health technology. You will gain an understanding of key challenges in the field and learn how to apply engineering approaches to develop innovative and practical solutions.
The specialization in Biomedical Engineering offers a structured yet flexible education grounded in the natural sciences. In the first year, you will complete core studies in physics, chemistry, and mathematics, building a solid basis for advanced studies. From the second year onwards, the focus gradually shifts towards biomedical engineering. At the same time, elective studies at Tampere University enable you to tailor your degree to your personal interests.
To support your academic and professional development, you will have the opportunity to participate in research training within faculty research groups during your second year. This hands-on experience allows you to gain study credits while becoming familiar with scientific research practices.
Best student life in Finland
You get to experience the unique Finnish student culture in the most student-friendly city in Finland. You will be part of our own international student guild, TaSciEn, which offers a warm community and organizes events ranging from company visits to alumni events as well as parties and sports activities. It is a support network that helps you to integrate into the programme and life in Tampere.
Master's degree studies
After completing the degree, you can continue your studies directly in a corresponding Master’s programme in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at Tampere University without reapplying. You may also choose from a range of English-taught Master of Science (Tech) programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

The way the studies are structured and the whole flexibility of it helped me a lot to adjust to the courses. I also really liked the opportunity we were given to pursue research earlier on. The research training program given to the first-year students is invaluable.
