The specialization in Engineering Physics offers a structured yet flexible education based on natural sciences while gradually deepening students’ expertise in physics based engineering. During the first year of studies, students complete common core courses in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, forming a solid foundation for advanced scientific and engineering studies. From the second year onwards, the curriculum increasingly emphasizes Physics and Engineering Physics, while elective studies at Tampere University allow students to shape their degree according to their own interests. To further support academic and professional development, second year students are offered the opportunity to participate in research training within faculty research groups, gaining hands on experience and earning study credits while becoming familiar with scientific research practices.

Master's degree studies
Graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics are eligible to continue their studies directly towards a corresponding master's degree at Tampere University without having to re-apply. There are three focus areas In Engineering Physics major, aerosol physics, computational physics, and photonics. There are also options to choose from among the English-taught Master of Science (Tech) programs offered by the faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Physics research at Tampere University
The research at the Physics Unit focuses on three areas: Aerosol Physics, Computational Physics and Photonics. The research topics include, e.g., atmospheric phenomena, emissions, nanomaterials, quantum mechanics, numerical algorithms, and light-matter interaction and other optical phenomena.

I chose the Science and Engineering programme because it offers students the opportunity to engage in world-class research from the beginning of their studies. The flexibility of the curriculum allows students from different backgrounds to tailor their academic paths according to their interests and goals.
