Tampere University’s annual review 2025

Tampere University is one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland and brings together research and education in technology, health and society. In addition to our three campuses in Tampere, we operate within the university consortia in Pori and Seinäjoki. Join us as we look back on some of our highlights from the year 2025!

At the end of 2025, approximately  23,200 students  from 105 nationalities were working towards a degree at Tampere University.

We employed around 4,400 staff members representing 83 nationalities.

We conferred  more than 5,100 degrees  in nine fields of education in 2025.

Highlights from 2025

  • We celebrated Tampere University’s 100-year journey and the 60-year history of higher education and academic research in technology in Tampere.
  • The number of degrees awarded by the University continued to grow. We also saw an increase in the degrees completed by international students.
  • The upward trend in international funding for research and development continued. There was also an increase in domestic funding.
  • The construction of the new Noodi building on the Hervanta campus reached the topping-out stage.
  • Our new contract term with the Ministry of Education and Culture commenced on 1 January 2025.
  • The responsibility for coordinating the University Consortium of Pori was transferred from Tampere University to the University of Turku, starting from 1 January 2025.

Tampere University stands out as one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland, with approximately 23,200 students pursuing their degrees with us each year. Our key areas of focus are technology, health and society, and almost all internationally recognised fields of education are represented at our University. We educate experts in ten fields of education.  

We also offer doctoral programmes, specialist training, open university courses, continuing education and professional development opportunities.

We conduct wide-ranging research across disciplinary boundaries, with research in the fields of technology, health and society being a particular strength. We are committed to responsible research practices and actively promote open science.

Societal interaction

We actively engage with the wider society. We maintain a broad range of partnerships with the private, public and third sectors in Finland and beyond. We offer diverse collaboration opportunities in research, education, development and innovation.  

Our specialists participate in numerous public policy processes, contribute to the preparation of national recommendations and engage in public debate.

Our staff

We employ around 4,400 staff members. We have around 3,200 employees working in teaching and research, approximately 100 working in our teacher training school and almost 1,100 members of other staff.  A total of 3,830 person-years were completed in 2025.

The Foundation has a mission to promote the well-being and competitiveness of Finnish society and to benefit humanity and the environment through high-quality, international research and teaching. Tampere University Foundation commenced operations as Tampere University on 1 January 2019.

Year of celebrations 2025

In 2025, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Tampere University and the 60-year history of technical research and education in Tampere. The celebrations included events for the university community and our partners throughout the year.
