Tampere University Foundation and the corporate group

Tampere University holds the legal status of a foundation under Finnish law. In accordance with the Finnish Universities Act, its governing bodies include the Board, President, Academic Board and Faculty Councils. The University also has other administrative, preparatory and advisory bodies, along with an internal organisation responsible for educational management, research support and professional services. Provisions that govern these operations are set out in the University’s internal regulations and policy documents.

Tampere University Foundation sr operates under the name Tampere University. The Foundation has a mission to promote the well-being and competitiveness of Finnish society and to benefit humanity and the environment through high-quality, international research and teaching. 

In addition, the Foundation operates as a university of applied sciences as set out in applicable legislation. 

Together, the Foundation and Tampere University of Applied Sciences constitute a higher education community that delivers academic and professional education at the highest level, conducts scientific research, and engages in applied research, development and innovation activities.

Tampere University Foundation commenced operations as Tampere University on 1 January 2019.

The subsidiaries of Tampere University Foundation include Tampere University of Applied Sciences Ltd (87% ownership), Campusta Oy (100% ownership) that provides facility services, and TUNI Start Oy (100% ownership).

Associated companies include FVR - Finnish Vaccine Research (49% ownership), Tuotekehitys Oy Tamlink (24.8% ownership) and Funidata Oy (22.3% ownership).

Other notable holdings include University Properties of Finland Ltd (14.6%), Certia Oy (13.8%), and HigherEd Hub Finland (6.3%).

Organisational structure

Tampere University operates across three campuses in Tampere and within the university consortia in Pori and Seinäjoki, Finland. Our seven faculties conduct research and deliver teaching, supported by centralised units that provide professional and administrative services.

Tampere University is organised into seven faculties, comprising a total of 23 academic units. The faculties are responsible for carrying out research and delivering teaching. Support services are provided by 13 specialised service units. Each faculty and service unit is led by a Dean or a Director, supported by a Management Group.
