University-level studies are free of charge for students of partner upper secondary schools that have signed a cooperation agreement. The student's own school pays for the studies to the Tampere University according to the agreement. This course explores knowledge management, encompassing the three essential phases of knowledge acquisition, creation, and sharing. It provides an in-depth understanding of the role and value of gamified systems and services and gaming technologies. Utilizing existing research evidence and practical cases, the course delves into the various applications of gamification across contexts, including business, economy, education, training, and health. The course structure includes a series of introductory lectures and interactive seminars where students collaborate in groups to choose a topic for in-depth investigation. The aim is to empower students to develop a dialectical perspective that enables them to critically analyze and appreciate the multifaceted nature of gamification in knowledge management.

The primary objective of the course is to foster a nuanced understanding of the gamification phenomenon, emphasizing opportunities, benefits, risks, challenges, and concerns, particularly when applied in knowledge management. Through a comprehensive exploration encompassing theoretical, methodological, practical, and design facets, students gain insights into gamification research and practices. After completing the course, the students will be able to: * Be aware of gamification potentials and challenges * Identify and analyze gamification elements and mechanisms * Evaluate diverse forms and technologies of gamification * Be familiar with and contextualize gamification applications in different stages of knowledge management * Understand motivation, psychology, and user experience in gamification * Apply gamification to knowledge quantification
