You can register for open UAS courses with an e-form or through a web shop. When registering through the web shop, you pay most single course fees are instantly; study modules containing several units (e.g. path studies) are billed separately. When you register through the e-form, the course fee is to be paid through the link delivered by email. Registration is binding. TAMK degree students register for courses through Pakki.

The aim of the basic studies in education is to improve teacher students understanding of the phenomena they encounter in their work as teachers. Learning objectives: Teacher student - knows Finnish adult and vocational education operating environments and their pedagogical underpinnings ( f.ex. Competence-based curriculum, personalized learning, ubiquitous learning) - recognizes the growth and developmental phases of youth and adulthood in a person’s life cycle and their significance in education, schooling and career paths - participates in discussion on vocational competences (job specific) and generic working life competences from the perspective of their own field - identifies the developmental phases of professional identity and builds their own professional identity according to their present/future work description - utilizes research and development activities in their own teaching

Teacher, self and peer assessment of activities completed. Assessment according to the criteria given in the Moodle LMS for assessed tasks.

During the course, we will seek answers to the following questions: - How does adult and vocational education in Finland support and promote growth and learning? - What are the special qualities of youth and adulthood in terms of growth, learning and guidance? - How can working life and the work community support the growth, development and learning of an individual? - How is professional identity built in various sectors, and how can it be supported? - What is the best way of following and applying the new trends in your own field and the teaching and pedagogy sector?

This is a 5 ECTS course. 5x27 hours = approx 135 hours.

After completing the course, the teacher student is able to - describe the operating environments and pedagogical bases of adult and vocational education in Finland - specify the stages of growth and development related to youth and adulthood and explain their significance for professional development and the formation of a career path - combine learning in the workplace and continuous learning with the professional growth of students - identity the development stages of their own specialist identity, and support and guide the formation of students’ professional identity - use topical data from research and development to support their work as an educator.

Materials will be provided online in the Moodle LMS and are expected to be supplemented by the student’s own research and enquiry based learning.

Target Group: Only for Students of Professional Teacher Education who are in the English Programme of TAOK. Individual and collaborative tasks, including readings, video lectures, assignments, reflection etc. online using synchronous and asynchronous technologies. Students are expected to reflect upon their learning and be active participants in their own learning. Learning environment (Moodle) of this course will be available from 15th May, 2024. Notice the pre-task in Moodle. Kick-off webinar: 23rd May, 2024 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm NOTICE! Do all the study activities according to your own timetable by 12th August 2024. Notice that this Moodle LMS will be closed by 19th August 2024. After Kick-off webinar the course includes independent and online work with other students which is not tied to a specific time.
