Tampere University celebrates new academic year on 5 September – Follow the Opening Ceremony and Awards Ceremony online

President Mari Walls’s speech opens the new academic year. Director of Corporate Services Juhani Sand from the wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa gives the keynote speech. Aleksi Niemi, Chair of the TREY Student Union, will bring the students’ perspective to the ceremony. 

The Alumnus/Alumna of the Year nomination and the Docent of the Year nomination will also be unveiled. 

After the opening festivities at 15.00, an Awards Ceremony will begin in which commendable persons in the fields of research, education and societal interaction will be awarded. The ceremony is organised by the University of Tampere Foundation and the Industrial Research Fund at Tampere University of Technology. 

The Opening Ceremony and the Awards Ceremony are open to the public and will also be streamed online. Registration for the events has ended, but you can follow the events online.

During the opening day, there will also be programme targeted especially for students. Opening Festival, organised by TREY, will take place on the campus grounds in the afternoon.
