Revisit the ambiance of Year of Celebrations 2025 – warm thanks to all participants!
Throughout 2025, the Year of Celebrations was reflected in events aimed at the university community and its partners, as well as in our communications and materials. Members of our community were also invited to organise their own events, which – together with jubilee-related news – were compiled on the dedicated web page Tampere University - Year of Celebrations 2025.
The Helsingin Sanomat Foundation, the Media Research Foundation of Finland and the C. V. Åkerlund Media Foundation congratulated the centenary of Finnish journalism education by donating a professorship in media and artificial intelligence to the Unit of Communication Sciences at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. To honour the University’s Year of Celebrations, the University of Tampere Foundation donated €20,000 to support the development and research of theatre arts. The City of Tampere marked the anniversary by illuminating the Tammerkoski rapids in the university’s signature purple colour in January.
The events attracted an impressive number of participants: around 7,300 visitors attended in person, or 10,800 when including the annual Jatkoon! event on further education opportunities for upper secondary students. Approximately 8,200 viewers followed the events online throughout the year. The inaugural lectures of new professors and the doctoral conferment ceremony were also streamed to the public via Aamulehti.
