Number of applications to English-language Bachelor’s programmes grows by more than 80%

A total of 1,906 applications were submitted to the English-language Bachelor’s programmes that will begin at Tampere University next autumn. The number of applications grew by 82% from last year.

In the application round that ended on Wednesday 19 January, it was possible to apply to two English-language Bachelor’s programmes.

The total number of applications was 1,906 and the number was up by 82% from 2021.

“There is clearly a demand for international Bachelor’s programmes,” says Marja Sutela, Vice President for Education at Tampere University.

“It is great to see the increased popularity of our multidisciplinary programmes among both international and Finnish applicants,” Sutela added.

The multidisciplinary Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Sustainable Urban Development continued strongly with its three tracks attracting a record number of 1,120 applications: Administrative Sciences (587), Social Sciences (307) and Technology (226). Compared to the application round last year, the number of applications grew by 105%.

The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Science and Engineering received a total of 786 applications with a 58% growth from the previous application round. The study track of Computing and Electrical Engineering received 477 applications and Natural Sciences and Mathematics 309 applications.

The total number of applicants was 1,399 representing 105 nationalities. The number of Finnish applicants was 472, and non-EU and non-EEA applicants comprised 60% (838 applicants) of the total number.

The Finnish-language programmes will be open for application in the second joint round of applications, which will be organised from 16 to 30 March 2022.
