This year’s first application period for higher education begins on Wednesday 9 January and ends on Wednesday 23 January at 15.00. Application to all programmes happens via the Studyinfo.fi portal. However, applications to most of the programmes are invited during the second application period later this spring.

In this round, the Tampere higher education community offers thirteen degree programmes; nine are offered by Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) and four by Tampere University.

Tampere University offers the Degree Programme and Master’s Degree Programme in Theatre Arts, which are taught in Finnish, and two degree programmes taught in English.

Theatre arts only admit students every second and third year. The Degree Programme in Theatre Arts is a five-year training that qualifies students to work as actors.

For the first time, Tampere University invites applications to the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Early Childhood Education that is taught in English. The programme is especially well suited for applicants who work in the early childhood field in Finland and possess the capacity to study in English but who may find that their Finnish language skills are insufficient for university studies.

The Degree Programme in Science and Engineering, which is taught in English and leads to the Master of Science (Engineering) degree, has been offered since 2016. It is now inviting applications as a part of the joint application procedure for the first time.

In August 2019, nine degree programmes taught in English will begin at TAMK whose application period starts on 9 January.

Programmes in the fields of business, media and technology are taught entirely in English. In addition, TAMK offers a degree programme in nursing that requires Finnish language skills. The programme is primarily targeted to international professionals already working in Finland and to Finnish applicants interested in international career opportunities.

Applicants may apply to these programmes from Finland and abroad. TAMK’s admission procedures have been expanded to include online entrance exams. Via the Finnips network, TAMK also organises the entrance exams of three programmes globally in different countries. For the first time, two of TAMK’s degree programmes also experiment using SAT scores in limited admission.

The application period to TAMK’s master’s degree programmes continues until 23 January 2019. Applicants who have completed a suitable bachelor’s degree in Finland or abroad and have three years of work experience in a relevant field may apply to the master’s degree programmes at TAMK. It is possible to complete a degree whilst working. As a new opening this year, TAMK organises the Degree Programme in Emerging Media, where new media technologies are combined with content production, art, audio-visual expression, and design.

Most of the programmes offered by the Finnish higher education institutions will have their application period from 20 March to 3 April.
