Tampere University’s humanities were placed among the best 400 in an international ranking. The Times Higher Education (THE) magazine has now published all the subject-specific rankings for 2021. Tampere University improved its overall score somewhat and got a ranking result in those subjects that are represented at the University.

Humanities at Tampere University (Arts and humanities in THE’s classification) were placed in the category of 301–400 best in the world.

After the overall ranking of universities, the magazine publishes subject-specific rankings. The top 100 are given an exact ranking while those that come next are grouped into categories.

The best performer in its own comparison this autumn was psychology, which made it to the top 200 (ranked in places 176–200). In THE’s world ranking of universities, Tampere University was placed in the category of 250–300.

Research citations have traditionally been the University’s forte. The citation performance indicator, which means the number of times other researchers cite research carried out at a university, reflects research impact.

The score is formed of ranking pillars which are divided into more detailed indicators. The most significant pillars are teaching, research, and the number of citations.

In THE’s ranking of arts and humanities, Stanford University is the world leader.
