Finnish Cultural Foundation grants over €1 million to Tampere University’s researchers

Researchers at Tampere University received a total of €1 million in grants from the Finnish Cultural Foundation (FCF). FCF allocated € 29 million as grants to promote scientific research, arts and culture.

Altogether, FCF awarded 831 grants to researchers, artists and culture professionals.

FCF had received a record number of applications, 10,706 in all. In the October application round, 9.2% of research applications and 6.7% of arts and culture applications received funding.

Researchers at Tampere University were awarded a total of €1,057,000 in 36 grants.

In addition to general research and arts grants, FCF allocates funding to specific themes. In the October call, these included applied research supporting the mental health of children and young people, to which a total of €1 million was awarded.

A significant grant for medical research was awarded to Professor Riittakerttu Kaltiala and her youth psychiatry team at Tampere University (€61,000).

In social sciences, a significant grant of €49,000 was awarded to researcher and architect Elina Alatalo.

For non-fiction books and the popularisation of scientific research and art, FCF awarded more than half a million euros. Professor of International Relations Tuomas Forsberg received funding for a Finnish-language popular textbook and digital learning environment that deal with international relations and world politics.
