International Mobility Services at Tampere University coordinates international mobility opportunities for students, teachers and staff. The team is responsible for exchange studies, Erasmus+ mobility for teaching and training, an outgoing traineeships.
The team provides guidance and advice on international mobility, develops mobility services, and promotes international opportunities across the university community. In addition, it administers mobility grant programmes and scholarships, manages Erasmus+ funding, and coordinates international tutoring services to support incoming exchange students throughout their stay at Tampere University.
Tampere University welcomes around 700 exchange students each academic year and we have hundreds bilateral agreements covering both student and staff exchanges.
We offer a range of support services and a Welcome Week for all incoming exchange students. Our staff and international student tutors introduce new exchange students to the services and practicalities of studying at our University and support them throughout their exchange period. All incoming exchange students are expected to prepare a preliminary study plan at the stage of application and before their arrival based on our curriculum.
We encourage all our students to gain international experience during their studies at Tampere University - either by going on exchange abroad or by strengthening global skills through internationalisation at home. Most students complete an exchange period during their bachelor’s and/or master’s studies, and doctoral students may also be eligible depending on their doctoral programme and destination. You can even use your exchange period to make progress on your diploma thesis or master’s thesis. Please note that students in a two-year master’s programme need a programme approval for exchange.
Tampere University offers a broad range of exchange opportunities with hundreds of destinations worldwide. Students can apply through established exchange programmes or via bilateral agreements between Tampere University and partner institutions. We aim to recognise studies completed abroad towards the Tampere University degree as fully as possible.
Going on exchange is also financially achievable for most students. Exchange periods are typically funded through Kela student financial aid and a Tampere University travel grant. Additional support may be available, including a family grant or an accessibility grant for outgoing students.
Erasmus+ 2021-27
Tampere University participates in the EU-funded Erasmus+ programme during 2021–2027, which supports mobility and cooperation in higher education. Participation in Erasmus+ is guided by the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), which provides the quality framework for Erasmus+ mobility and cooperation in higher education. At Tampere University, International Mobility Services coordinate Erasmus+ student and staff mobility and provide guidance and support for international mobility. The ECHE for 2021–2027 reflects shared Erasmus+ priorities such as inclusion, sustainability and digitalisation.
