Embrace sustainable architecture
We integrate sustainability into all dimensions of design: its starting points, processes and outcomes. Holistic sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are at the heart of our studies. The programme also covers several other approaches to sustainability, all of which you will study both through theory and practice and explore in detail in your coursework.
How you learn?
We encourage you to explore and imagine architectural approaches for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and to discover paths for increasing the overall resilience of built environments. We offer the latest knowledge on holistic sustainable architecture both in contexts of building and urban design, explored both in theory and design, and delivered by our research active staff. Our pedagogical approach to architectural education is collaborative, learner-centred and research-based. During your studies, you will also gain valuable insight and experience by participating in inspiring real-life projects.
Build your own sustainability career
Our programme provides you with a broad understanding of the fundamentals of sustainable architecture on which to build your expertise. The degree confers eligibility to work as an architect in Finland, the EU and other countries abroad, although access to the profession may require training, an internship or an examination, depending on local regulations.
With this degree you can build a career in architectural design, city and urban planning, research, policymaking or consultancy, to name some examples. Our students have excellent employability after studies.
Join our community!
The School of Architecture in Tampere enjoys an outstanding reputation and attracts students from all over the world. We encourage our students to a critical and self-reflective mindset in dialogue with other students, architects and researchers. This creates a hub for design and creative thinking where we encourage each other to create positive impact and active hope in the climate emergency. Consequently, our students make up a vivid social community organizing a lot of informal activities and happenings in their own guild room as well as elsewhere in the campus.
