Programme for curious problem-solvers

Natural Sciences and Mathematics is the ideal track for you if you're curious about exploring various phenomena and eager to understand the principles behind technological innovations. You can choose to specialize in one of the core scientific disciplines—Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry—or focus on more applied fields such as Biomedical Engineering or Materials Science. Experts in Natural Sciences and Mathematics play a key role in e.g. addressing solutions to global challenges like climate change, developing more durable materials, and advancing medical technologies.

We offer our students high-quality teaching in relatively small, multicultural study groups where teamwork is strongly supported. In addition to providing a sound theoretical basis for further studies in the field of technology, the programme places special emphasis on employability and integration. With this unique combination, our students are well-prepared for the international world of research and industry.

Flexibility and options for further studies

Your first study year consists of common core courses in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. You will choose your major and minor at the start of the second study year. University studies at Tampere will offer you flexibility to tailor your degree according to your own interests. We also offer our second-year students the possibility to do research training in one of our research groups, which is an opportunity to get hands-on experience. This training is unpaid, but students will earn ECTS credits.

Graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Technology degree are eligible to continue their studies directly towards a master's degree at Tampere University without having to re-apply. There are multiple options to choose from among the English-taught Masters of Science (Tech) programmes offered by Tampere University.

The way the studies are structured and the whole flexibility of it helped me a lot to adjust to the courses. I also really liked the opportunity we were given to pursue research earlier on. The research training program given to the first-year students is invaluable.

Tampere is simply a city for students. You have the opportunity to take part in many student associations, and there are multiple active events, both formal and informal, that happen throughout the whole academic year. I especially love the way people here are extremely open and always welcome me to join them with whatever they're doing.

The possibility of getting involved in research work while studying is the best thing about this programme. It opened up numerous possibilities like participating in a science conference and aiding in experiments for scientific papers.
