EDU Faculty

The Faculty of Education and Culture (EDU) offers an incoming fellow a welcoming and active research environment with the variety of interesting research themes. EDU is a multidisciplinary research community interested in the state and renewal of education in society. We understand education as a social phenomenon that is intertwined with the surrounding cultural, ecological, technological, political, economic, and social environment. Our research community consists of 12 research groups and two research centres, coordinated by the faculty, the Research Centre on Transnationalism and Transformation TRANSIT, and the Research centre for Education, Assessment and Learning REAL. Thematically, our research focuses on the three intertwined areas: Education in Society, Communities in Education, and Learning, Pedagogy and Learning Cultures.

EDU works closely with local, regional, and national stakeholders in education. EDU’s researchers collaborate actively with the public sector, among others the City of Tampere, the Finnish national Agency for Education and the Ministry of Education and Culture. The faculty hosts the Teacher Training School, a comprehensive and high school that is responsible for offering teacher training and supervision of the training. Together with the early childhood education and care institutions in Tampere region, the Teacher Training School provides researchers with a fruitful authentic research environment.
