Tampere University improves its standing in the QS World University Rankings

The QS World University Rankings is one of the most widely recognised global university rankings. The 2026 edition includes a total of 1,501 universities worldwide.
Among the nine Finnish universities featured in this year’s ranking, Tampere University holds sixth place. The highest-ranked university in Finland is Aalto University, which is placed 114th globally. The top spot goes to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by Imperial College London in second place and Stanford University in third.
The QS World University Rankings assesses universities across nine indicators, each weighted differently. The indicators include academic reputation, citations per faculty, employer reputation, employment outcomes, faculty-student ratio, international faculty ratio, international research network, international student ratio and sustainability.
Tampere University achieved its highest scores in the indicators for international research network (ranked 277th) and international faculty ratio (ranked 378th).
The results of the QS World University Rankings by Subject were published earlier this spring. Tampere University was ranked 27th globally in Information Studies (classified by QS as Library and Information Management). The University also placed within the top 250 globally in Communication and Media Studies as well as in Psychology. Read more: Tampere University’s fields of science featured in QS Ranking
