Nouman Zia named to global Photonics100 list of innovators

Dr Nouman Zia, a visiting researcher at Tampere University, has been named to the Photonics100 list, which celebrates the top global innovators advancing the field of photonics.

The annual Photonics100 recognises the top 100 innovators who are shaping the global photonics landscape. Honourees are selected for their pioneering work in academia, industry and entrepreneurship, with applications ranging from quantum technology and biomedicine to lasers and optical communications.

Nouman Zia earned his PhD from the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) group at Tampere University. His research focused on integrated mid-infrared light sources, a cutting-edge field with major implications for gas sensing, healthcare and environmental monitoring. 

According to the announcement regarding Zia's recognition (available to registered users), his current employment at Nokia Networks' System-on-Chip Unit and his strong affiliation with Tampere University position him at the intersection of semiconductor manufacturing, photonic chip design and system reliability for 5G and 6G technologies. This recognition reflects Nouman Zia’s significant contributions to advancing optoelectronics and photonics technology.
