Three research groups from the ITC Faculty at Tampere University have received Research to Business (R2B) funding from Business Finland, which supports public research organizations in commercializing their research results.

The Research to Business (R2B) funding from Business Finland enables public research organizations to prepare the commercialization of their research-based products or services. With this funding, teams can develop product or service solutions, conduct applied research supporting commercialization, and enhance their own commercialization expertise.

The projects, which started earlier this year, will run for 1.5–2 years. Their goal is to create a clear path toward commercialization and demonstrate the market and international potential of the innovations.

Funded projects:

  • GeometricAI
    Project Lead: Mehmet Yamac
GeometricAI develops AI modules that make deep neural networks more transparent. The project advances the commercialization of energy-efficient, explainable, privacy-preserving, and responsible AI solutions.
  • ExplainedAI
    Project Lead: Antti Kuusisto
ExplainedAI develops modern white-box classifiers for AI, aiming to make AI decision-making processes more understandable for humans.
  • PivotCore
    Project Lead: Andre Tregubov
PivotCore develops advanced control software that improves the performance of megawatt-scale systems by utilizing existing hardware and enabling low-risk deployment.

An example of a previously funded commercialization project is the funding received by Juho Kanniainen. (You can read about his research in the article Professor Juho Kanniainen’s group develops leading machine learning models for financial markets.) Another example is CeLLife., a company founded in 2022 as a spin-off from Tampere University, focusing on intelligent and digital battery diagnostics technology, based on over 10 years of extensive research.
