Go Global! One week left to apply in the Autumn round from 27 Oct to 16 Nov for a research internship in Montreal in 2026–27

Tampere University’s Autumn application round offers master’s and doctoral students, especially in engineering fields, the chance to apply for an English-language research internship at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal, Canada.
Research internship in Montreal – step into the heart of high technology
École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal offers a unique opportunity for an English-language research internship at the forefront of technology and engineering. ÉTS is Canada’s second-largest engineering university and is known for its close collaboration with industry – a quarter of Québec’s engineers graduate from ÉTS. During the internship, you’ll engage in hands-on research addressing real-world challenges faced by companies, within an international research community. More than 60 research units explore topics such as artificial intelligence, health technologies, aerospace engineering, drones, and the electrification of transportation. You’ll work under the supervision of a professor on current projects, which may focus on sustainable development or intelligent systems. The internship is especially suitable for students in fields such as civil, electrical, computer, software, mechanical, production, and industrial engineering.
Montreal’s multicultural atmosphere and its blend of European and North American influences make the experience both educational and unforgettable. The recommended minimum duration of the internship is three months, and the main application period is during Tampere University’s autumn round. Applicants are responsible for finding their own internship position and supervisor, as well as handling practical arrangements. Although course participation is not possible, you will receive student status, a student card, and can apply for campus housing. You may also negotiate credit transfer for the internship. Tampere University supports interns with a 1,500 € travel grant. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, gain international experience, and stand out in the job market.

If selected for the opportunity, you will then begin the process of finding a suitable research internship placement at ÉTS. Where else can I apply during the Autumn application round?
The Autumn round is Tampere University’s main application period for student exchanges outside Europe for the academic year 2026–27. In addition to the research internship at ÉTS in Montreal, master’s level students can apply to other international exchange destinations - though restrictions will apply depending on the programme and destination. If you are studying in an English-taught programme with tuition fees, you must also obtain approval from your education specialist to be eligible to apply. For doctoral level students, we recommend exploring dedicated mobility grants and exchange opportunities specifically designed for doctoral research.
You can apply to up to five different exchange destinations or programmes during the autumn round. The destinations and programmes vary by continent, offering diverse opportunities around the world. You’re also welcome to visit us during International Mobility Services drop-in hours either in Hervanta or the city centre campus to discuss your options. Please note that the autumn round is only for destinations outside Europe. European exchange destinations and programmes such as north2north are coming in the Winter round, in January 2026. You’ll find the steps of the application process, funding opportunities, and detailed information about available destinations in the Student's Guide: Internationalisation during studies.
