The Academy of Finland’s Article Processing Charges

In the future, the Academy of Finland's article processing charges (APC) will be paid centrally through the library. The centralised model is likely to increase equality for open access publishing between disciplines and faculties.

In accordance with the Academy of Finland's full cost model, the overhead percentage is used to cover costs that are not allocated directly to the project, such as article processing charges. However, due to differences in publishing cultures between different disciplines, APC expenses are not currently being evenly distributed among faculties. In the future, the aim of the centralised model is to direct the share of overhead percentage returns directly to the library budget from all academy projects, making it possible to cover the APC costs of AoF projects of all faculties. In the future, researcher does not need to include APC costs in the AoF budjet.
