EDU/TAU - Tanzania

Tampereen yliopisto
Projektin kesto1.8.2019–31.7.2022
KärkialueYhteiskunta
Mzumbe, Tanzania

The aim of the project is to promote responsiveness of universities towards challenges of exclusion, environmental degradation and economic injustice through adult, vocational and higher education.

Developments in East-Africa and Europe are increasingly closely intertwined: unless the global North collaborates with the global South in balancing economic and social inequalities, tensions and violence related to forced migration, environmental degradation and economic inequality will endanger peace, security and wellbeing in both areas. Universities are key actors in studying uneven division of industries, work and occupations, of social and economic rights cross the world.

EDU/TAU - especially the coordinating research group EquJust - and MU have since long collaborated in MA and doctoral studies and in teaching and research, which has proved beneficial for both parties. Beside achieved credits and degrees, it has been important to share situations and challenges in HE, adult and vocational education, including their institutional cooperation. The established close cooperation with education authorities, institutions and practitioners will be a vital element also in this project.

The focus of collaboration is in joint and comparative research, building on MA/Dr thesis studies and supervision both in EDU/TAU and MU, integrating virtual and physical activities. These include also networking, publishing and dissemination among relevant research, policy and practitioner communities.
