Open University

The course will be offered free of charge through <a href="https://fitech.io/fi/">FITech</a> in the academic year 2025-2026. Applications for the course can be made through the FITech website.

After completing the course, the student<ul><li>identifies security and privacy threats and responsibilities;</li><li>has a wide knowledge of the concepts, principles and mechanisms of information security;</li><li>will be aware of&nbsp;what kind of additional knowledge and skills are needed to perform various information security tasks in different application areas.</li></ul>

Apply for study rights through the <a href="https://fitech.io/fi/">FITech</a> website. You will find a Start here button on each <a href="https://fitech.io/en/studies/cyber-security-i-fundamentals/">course page</a>, which will direct you to the correct form. Once your application has been approved, you will receive instructions on, among other things, activating your IT ID and starting your studies.

The studies offered by FITech are free of charge.

No previous knowledge of cyber security is required.

Online course

Cyber Security I: Fundamentals, Independent project (in English, for international students)

This course is completed independently and entirely at your own pace. Depending on your grade goal you need to pass one, two or three exams. Please note that the exams are only available on-campus in Tampere.Besides the exam(s) you most likely need and want to gather points from&nbsp;a&nbsp;wide selection of exercises on the learning platform Harpo. Its <a href="https://tie-sec.rd.tuni.fi/harpo/index.php">main page</a> is public and displays the course structures.Apply for a study right by clicking the “Start here” button. When you have credentials to your Tuni account, you need to register to Harpo. If you do not receive the registration code into your @tuni.fi mailbox from Harpo within a week, notify the teacher with an email: jukka.koskinen (at) tuni.fi. Do this from your @tuni.fi address and include your name and student number. Besides the subject field “Request for Harpo registration”, you don’t need to submit any other information.

You also need to register to Harpo. Once a week, the teacher sets new students from SISU to Harpo and sends a welcome message with the code you need for registration.
