The aim of the SILTA project is to examine and develop the collaborative professional development of lower secondary subject teachers and preparatory education teachers as they work with newly arrived migrant students transitioning from preparatory education to basic education.
In the project, researchers together with teachers and school leadership from the participating schools develop a pedagogical collaboration model for lower secondary subject teachers and preparatory class teachers to support immigrant students during the transition phase. The model will be piloted, and its effectiveness will be evaluated using both qualitative (teacher interviews, observations) and quantitative (the InSitu instrument measuring school engagement, translated into the students’ first languages) methods.
The SILTA project is a joint research project of Tampere University and the University of Jyväskylä.
