Computational Aerosol Formation from Emissions (CAFE)

The Computational Aerosol Formation from Emissions (CAFE) group applies computational methods to resolve key knowledge gaps in aerosol formation. Specifically, we focus on chemical reactions that transform volatile gases into low volatility vapors that drive particle growth. Reaction mechanisms that describe these transformations are characterized using accurate quantum chemistry methods and validated using mass spectrometry experiments. Our results help reduce the large uncertainties that currently exist in air quality and climate models.
