About me

Dr. Raoul Yondo is a Lecturer in the Unit of Automation Technology and Mechanical Engineering (ATME) at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Tampere University. He is responsible for a range of courses in theoretical and numerical aeromechanics, flight mechanics, and aircraft structures.

Before joining Tampere University, Dr. Yondo worked as an Aircraft Structures Engineer on site @ Airbus Finkenwerder in Hamburg and as a Research Scientist @ the Airbus Flight Physics Capabilities in Bremen, Germany, where he contributed to the (Aerodynamics) Methods & Tools Group, focusing on computational aerodynamics and applied mathematics for aircraft design. He has a broad academic background across Africa and Europe, having studied at the University of Buea in Cameroon, at Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University) in Finland, at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden, at Cranfield University in the UK, and at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in Spain. He was awarded a fellowship through the Airbus-UPM Marie Curie Innovative Training Networks, a scheme funded under the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) that aimed at training new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative early-stage researchers. This enabled him to complete his doctoral research with the supervision and collaboration of Airbus Germany (Bremen), Airbus Spain (Getafe), the Spanish National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Mission statement

The design of next-generation lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air aircraft forms the central theme of my research interests, with particular emphasis on advanced computational and mathematical methods for real-time and many-query applications. I seek to contribute to advances in physics-based and mission/operation-aware (AI-driven) methods for (sustainable) aviation applications.
