About me
Oshie Nishimura-Sahi is a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Education and Culture, Tampere University, and an educational researcher at the University of Tokyo, Japan (2025-2026). Her research interests include global education policies and trends, the transnational mobility of educational ideas, and the interactions of diverse actors in policy transfer processes and power dynamics therein. In her most recent work, she seeks to advance methodological and epistemological diversity in comparative education research by incorporating Japanese intellectual traditions and employing autobiographical ethnography.
Her current postdoctoral research aims to contribute to policy movement studies by informing global discussions on the commodification and commercialisation of education as a national project and its inherent ethical challenges. To achieve the aim, this research examines the Finnish case of education export, while analysing the intersection of government-led education export initiative, neonationalism, and neocolonialism. By so doing, it explores new approaches to ethical and sustainable transnational education.
Her research interests comprise also such themes as memory work and educational research, multicultural and intercultural education, foreign language education policy and education systems in Japan and Finland.
