Find an intern at TAMK

Our students study in fields such as media and arts, business administration, engineering and construction, social and health care, and smart technologies. All degree programmes include an internship period. This page provides employers with information about internships and instructions for hiring an intern from TAMK

What is an internship?

An internship is in many ways similar to a fixed‑term employment relationship. For paid internships, the same employer and employee rights and responsibilities apply as in other employment relationships. At the beginning of the internship, the intern is introduced to the workplace, team, tasks and working methods just like any new employee.

However, internships have some special features to keep in mind:

  • Duration. Internships have a set duration, typically 4 weeks to 5 months.
  • Learning. The intern is expected to gain practical experience in their own field. They should be able to apply skills learned in their studies and have the opportunity to learn new things.
  • Guidance and feedback. The intern must have one or more designated supervisors from the employer. Supervisors support task completion when needed and give feedback throughout the internship. Receiving feedback is central to the internship.
  • Defined tasks. Tasks are planned so the intern can complete them with guidance during the internship period. Tasks vary depending on the field and employer needs. You can also plan suitable tasks together with the intern.

Before publishing an internship position

Please consider in advance:

  • The intern’s tasks
  • The team and supervisor
  • Required and desired skills before starting
  • Timing and duration. Internships can be offered year‑round. Students look for positions from September to late May, and many also seek summer internships. The busiest period however is spring.
  • Language used in the internship and in the job posting. Our students include native Finnish speakers, advanced Finnish speakers, learners of Finnish, and foreign-language speakers. Choose Finnish or English based on the role’s language needs. Clearly state language requirements to avoid wasted applications.
  • Salary. We strongly recommend offering a paid internship, especially when the intern works independently after orientation. Positions that list salary attract significantly more applicants.
  • Flexibility and accessibility. Bring forward possibilities for remote work, part‑time arrangements, flexible working hours, or accessible facilities in the job posting.

How to publish an internship position

Publishing via JobTeaser

We use JobTeaser as the primary platform for advertising internships and jobs, except for social and health care internships.
Employers can publish open positions directly for students to find and apply for. Creating an account and using JobTeaser as an employer is free of charge.

Steps to publish a position:

  1. Log in to TAMK’s JobTeaser with your email address or create an account. You can choose between two account types. Recruiter account can be used for posting open positions only. Company account allows posting positions, adding employer profiles, and publishing events.
  2. Publish the open position. Applications can be directed either to an email address or to an external application site. The posting will be archived automatically at the date you choose.

Social and health care internships

Like other universities of applied sciences, TAMK uses Jobiili for social and health care internships. On Jobiili’s website, you can create an account and submit internship postings specifically for these fields.

If the role is not strictly an internship (e.g., seasonal work or a fixed‑term job), then JobTeaser is the correct platform to use.

International interns

Hiring an intern can be an excellent opportunity for your organisation to try working with an international talent. International students help your organisation develop its language skills and intercultural competence.

In a Tandem internship, an international student completes the internship together with a Finnish-speaking student. The Finnish-speaking student acts partly as a mentor, supporting the international student with tasks and workplace integration. Tandem internships offer a low‑threshold way to work with international students.

Find an intern from Tampere University

Many internship roles are suitable for both university and university of applied sciences students. If you want to reach university students as well, publish the internship separately in the Tampere University’s JobTeaser service.

Internship process

The following process applies to all fields except social and health care.

  1. 1

Offer the internship and select a suitable intern.

This is done via JobTeaser or Jobiili.

  2. 2

Sign the internship agreement sent by the student.

    The agreement requires:

    • Organisation name
    • Contact person/supervisor and phone number
    • Internship start and end dates
    • Weekly working hours
    • Whether the internship is paid or unpaid
    • The intern’s tasks

The agreement is typically signed electronically.

  3. 3

    Create an employment contract.

If the internship is paid, prepare a separate employment contract in addition to the internship agreement.

  4. 4

    Internship begins.

The internship starts with an orientation to the workplace and tasks. Providing feedback throughout the internship is important.

  5. 5

    Internship ends.

Complete the employer feedback on the internship. The student may also ask for a work certificate.

Tips for a successful internship

  • Write a high‑quality posting. Explaining tasks helps students describe their skills and set realistic goals.
  • Plan the orientation carefully and reserve enough time. Make expectations clear for the student.
  • Structure guidance. You can for example use planned check‑ins (start, mid‑point, end).
  • Make it easy for the student to contact the supervisor. Agree early on how and when they can reach out.
  • Give constructive and encouraging feedback. Your intern may be a future colleague or partner.
