Tampere University celebrates new academic year on 4 September
President Keijo Hämäläinen warmly welcomes the entire university community and Tampere University's partners to the event.
“A traditional opening ceremony is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the return to campuses and welcome new students to our community. I hope that the participants will enjoy meeting old and new acquaintances as the new academic years begins,” Hämäläinen says.
Hämäläinen, who started working as President of Tampere University in June, gives the opening speech at the ceremony.
Minister for Local and Regional Government Anna-Kaisa Ikonen gives the keynote address and Anniina Honkasaari, Chair of the Student Union of Tampere University TREY brings students’ perspectives to the event.
Tampere University’s Alumna or Alumnus of 2023 is also unveiled at the ceremony.
The opening ceremony is followed by an awards ceremony organised to reward excellence in research, education, and societal impact at Tampere University. The awards ceremony is arranged by the University of Tampere Foundation sr and the Industrial Research Fund at Tampere University of Technology sr.
Both ceremonies are open to the public.
To organise catering, we are kindly asking participants to register by 12.00 on 28 August.
Use the same form to register in the academic procession to which professors are welcome, including assistant, associate and full professors and professors of practice.
The opening ceremony of the new academic year is streamed online.
Starting at 14.00, a festival for students is arranged on the city centre campus.
