Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) had a successful year in 2024 in terms of education, RDI activities, and international cooperation. The number of students continued to grow, and the graduation rate improved significantly. At the same time, TAMK's financial results strengthened, reducing the annual costs associated with sustainable campus development and enabling the strengthening of research, development, and innovation activities (RDI).

TAMK's goal is to produce skills for the future workforce. In 2024, the number of degrees increased by 3%, while the dropout rate decreased by 12%. A special recognition of TAMK's high quality education was the award of the Olympic Committee's Top Athlete Friendly University quality label, which supports the flexible study path of students competing at the highest level.

In RDI activities, TAMK made new openings both nationally and internationally. TAMK became part of the prestigious European Uninovis university alliance. This opens up new opportunities for the development of green transition and digital innovations in international networks.

In 2024, TAMK's continuing education also performed excellently. Particularly, social and health sector education and technology sector continuing education attracted great interest and supported the availability of skilled labor in various sectors.

Tuition fees exceeded expectations

According to the 2024 financial statements, TAMK's operating result increased to 9 million euros. The turnover of Tampere University of Applied Sciences increased by approximately 0.9 million euros from the previous year. State funding was 63.9 million euros, and external funding increased by about 3 million euros more than anticipated. Especially tuition fee income exceeded the budgeted level, and other external funding also strengthened more than estimated. Compared to the previous year, however, there was a decrease of about 15% in both business and external funding project revenues.

The result was higher than expected due to the following reasons:

  • Tuition fee income was significantly higher than originally budgeted, almost three times the budgeted amount.
  • State funding was approximately 1.6 million euros more than the previous year.
  • The reduction in personnel due to retirements, among other things, reduced personnel costs, and not all positions were filled with new recruits.

Operating costs and investment activities

Operating costs were 78 million euros, and personnel costs accounted for 65% of the operating costs. Other costs amounted to 27 million euros, which is at the previous year's level.

In investment activities, the market value of the Tampere University Foundation's investment portfolio increased by 2.1 million euros (12%), and the value of EQ real estate funds decreased by approximately 90,000 euros (6%).
